MOM of the Month: August 2017

Welcome to our new monthly #MEETTHEMAMA series where we feature our MOM: Mom Of the Month - a FIT4MOM Folsom + EDH mama who embodies all that is FIT4MOM: Strong, Kind and Beautiful, inside and out.

Lauren W. is our August MOM. Lauren is one of our original Stroller Strides + Stroller Barre members and has been with us from the beginning (you know, just a few months ago). Lauren always arrives to class early and ready-to-go, she works incredibly hard and challenges herself in class, is one of the friendliest people you will ever meet, shares all the FIT4MOM love with her friends and is one of the strongest mamas we know, in more ways than one. OH! And she has an ADORABLE baby daughter, Wrenna, who is as sweet as can be.

Let's meet our August MOM, Lauren!

Hometown? I was born in Laguna Beach, California, and lived in Moreno Valley, California, until I was 9 years old. Then we moved to El Dorado Hills, so EDH is my hometown.

Tell us about who is in your family! My family consists of my wonderful husband, Matt, and our beautiful 4-month-old daughter Wrenna. My husband is my biggest fan and is my confidence booster. He loves so hard and is the best father in the world!! Wren is the most easy going, adorable, hilarious and happiest baby ever. We sure are blessed to be her parents.

Current/previous career? I have worked with children for 15 years in a variety of settings, but my favorite job has been as a nanny.

What was your childhood ambition? I always wanted to fall in love and have a family. I am living my dream!

What does motherhood mean to you? I am just starting out with this mom thing, so I am still trying to figure it all out. I always thought the transition from nanny to motherhood would be quite smooth, but parenthood is completely different. The 24/7, lack of sleep, and hormone imbalance are unbelievable challenges. Motherhood means so many things to me: strength, change, flexibility, routine, patience and acceptance. Motherhood means being a confident role model for my daughter because she is watching me every day and taking it all in. I want her to have good morals, be kind, try her best and always leave a place better than she found it. I have learned that I definitely need the "village" to get me through each day. Thank goodness for grandparents, friends, my husband, all the amazing support groups and, of course, FIT4MOM.

Where is the farthest you have been away from home? The farthest I have been away from home is New York. My parents grew up there and I still have a lot of family on Long Island.

How did you find FIT4MOM? I heard about FIT4MOM thanks to Skye Z. She posted the FIT4MOM link on the Folsom Mommy and Me Facebook page. Thank goodness she did because it has changed my life.

How has FIT4MOM impacted your life? FIT4MOM has not only impacted my life, it has changed it for the better. I was battling postpartum depression and just having a hard time adjusting to motherhood. I decided to try FIT4MOM to meet other moms (not even for the workout). After the first class, I went home crying with joy to my husband begging to squeeze FIT4MOM into the budget. I told him the women are amazing and the workouts kick butt (in a good way). FIT4MOM has given me a wonderful routine every morning. I wake up each day excited to go to class and see all the moms and kiddos and of course get my endorphins going with a hard core workout. I truly enjoy the camaraderie of the women. FIT4MOM has helped me get out of my postpartum funk and made me a happy mom. It has made me enjoy motherhood (because at first, I didn't) and it has made me a great example to my daughter. She sees me workout every day and it is great to show her how important that is not only for physical health, but mental health as well.

Favorite exercise? My favorite exercise is planking and anything with the resistance bands.

Proudest moment? My proudest moment was when I overcame the challenges I faced with pregnancy, labor and postpartum depression. I feel very proud that I got through the hard times and made it to now ... enjoying motherhood every day and my beautiful daughter!

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us! At the age of 30 years old, I answered the front door and the person asked if my parents were home. HA, yay for being short!!
