Welcome back to our monthly #MEETTHEMAMAS series where we feature our MAMAS here at FIT4MOM Folsom Lake. Today, let's meet our OCTOBER MOM: Mom Of the Month - a mama who embodies all that is FIT4MOM: Strong, Kind and Beautiful, inside and out.
Kristin Rubow is our October MOM, and mama to four sweet Rubow children; Sullivan (11), Isabella (9), Mia Grace (7) and Emery (2). In just one year Kristin has shown her dedication to all things FIT4MOM by being a regular at Stroller Strides and Stroller Barre classes as well as participating in Body Back Transformations. Kristin greets every mama with such kindness and is equally as supportive to those around her. Kristin can listen to a mama in need, she can give suggestions, she will laugh with you and she will give you the BEST hug. This mama is committed and we ADMIRE her heart and soul.
Let's meet our October MOM, Kristin!
Hometown? I am from Chicago. Born and raised in the Chicago-land area and then in the year 2000, my husband and I left everything and everyone we knew to move to California!
Tell us about who is in your family! I married my high school sweetheart and we have been together for almost 25 years (before he even had his driver’s license!) Nate is a Captain in the Oakland Fire Department. Together we have four kiddos: Sullivan is 11, Isabella is 9, Mia Grace is 7, and Emery is 2.
Current/previous career? I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. So, I joined Teach For America and was placed in East Palo Alto as a 3rd grade teacher, in a low-income district where they just couldn’t recruit teachers to stay. I fell in love with the job and began working on my teaching credential right away. I have loved teaching elementary school students over the years (almost as much as I love being a mom) and look forward to teaching again someday. But in this season of life, being a mom to my four is my favorite job!
What was your childhood ambition? I think my childhood dreams came true! I dreamt of being a mom, a teacher, and an interior designer. The first two came true for sure, and the last one is more of a hobby. I love to decorate and organize and always have a home project I am working on.
What does motherhood mean to you? Motherhood is one of the sweetest gifts I’ve ever been given and one of the most difficult jobs I’ve ever taken on. Motherhood means birthday breakfasts, sleepless nights, long walks, picnic lunches, smudged windows, piles of shoes by the door, big bear hugs, late night talks, and sidewalk chalk in the driveway. Motherhood is an adventure that makes life so much more colorful. It’s my job to love them unconditionally, pray for them constantly, listen to them patiently, cheer them on joyfully, and guide them passionately.
What is the furthest you have been away from home? I think the furthest I’ve ever been away from home was a trip to Trinidad where I worked at an orphanage one summer.
How did you find FIT4MOM? I found Fit4Mom online. I somehow clicked on a link that took me to the home page and I loved what I saw! This was in June of 2017. I waited until the end of the summer, until my bigger kids were back in school and then I tried my first class in August of 2017. I just celebrated my one year anniversary!
How has FIT4MOM impacted your life? Fit4Mom has had a huge impact on my life! It came at a time when I was looking for a way to continue on the health journey I was on. I wanted to find a way to build exercise, accountability, community and encouragement into my daily routine AND let my kids be a part of that journey somehow too. I have loved modeling to my youngest daughter what it means to be strong and healthy and happy. I was hooked from the moment I started and I’ve loved Body Back and Run Club as well. I’m so thankful for the amazing mamas Fit4Mom brought into my life!
Favorite exercise? My favorite exercise is toss-up between planks and push-ups.
Proudest moment? My proudest moment would have to be each time I held my babies in my arms for the very first time. There is absolutely nothing like that moment in the whole world. The first time you cradle them in your arms and look down at their tiny faces, there is such a feeling of love and strength and protection that just fills you up!
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us! You might be surprised to know that I have a huge phobia of fish! Whether it’s fish in an ocean, lake, or pet store… I don’t go near them. Just the thought of swimming with fish makes my blood pressure go up. I have no idea where the fear came from but I try to hide it from my kids, so I don’t pass the crazy fear on to them!
